The oldest complete Hebrew manuscript of the Bible was written in Tiberius in 930 CE. It was stolen by Crusaders, redeemed by the Jews of Egypt, and brought by Maimonides' family to Aleppo, where it remained for 600 years until it was smuggled to Israel. Somewhere along the way, a third of this most accurate copy of the Masoretic text of Tanakh went missing. How did the scribes of this codex succeed in preserving such an accurate text? Where might the missing pages be?
